Family:Frostfish belong to the Trichiuridae family (cutlassfishes).
Frostfish are nomrally found over the outer shelf at depths between 200 and 500 metres, but ocassionally stray into coastal waters. imilar species occur in most cool oceans. The New Zealand species is very similar to the Korean and Japanese species, except tha the local fish have forked tails.
