The Senior Deckhand can work on fishing vessels of any length in any operating area. They're responsible for ensuring the deck, fishing gear and lifting appliances are in good working order, and all deck operations are carried out safely.
Entry Requirements
To become a Qualified Deckhand, you need to get your Advanced Deckhand - Fishing Certificate.
To achieve this you need
- To be at least 16 years old
- You don’t need any prior certification
- Sea Service: 6 months on fishing vessels operating beyond enclosed water limits
- Completion of an approved training record book
- NZ Certificate in Fishing Vessel Crewing (Level 3)
- STCW-F basic safety training
